Agency or Boutique?

Looking for a Doula?  Not sure what to look for or ask about?  Here are some basics...

Why an Agency?  Agencies are groups of 2 or more individuals, usually independently-owned contractors, who work together with one web presence.  You contract with individuals, and they usually have teams or guarantees for service.  Every contract looks the same and tends to have one prenatal visit and one postnatal visit plus the birth for a Birth Doula, or a set dollar amount for Postpartum hours and packages available for large needs including a discount.  Generally they tend to be on the higher cost end of the pricing spectrum

Why a Boutique?  Want a tailored approach?  These are the true chameleons of the Doula community!

Boutique, or small business Doula options are more personal.  You tend to connect with a single Doula or a Doula team rather than a group.  Boutiques offer a range of services individualized to their training and philosophies.  They tend to take a limited number of clients and focus on service rather than numbers.  The contracts are also individualized and more open to your needs - not to Agency Policy.  There are more options for the number of prenatal or postnatal visits as your Boutique Doula generally grows a one-on-one relationship in this personalized service.  The options are limitless!  Services vary by each Doula.

How much sill it cost?  Prices ranges depend on the services desired - Many Boutique Doulas can save you as much as 50% off an Agency Package!

What is a Doula?

Doulas are experienced professionals educated in supporting pregnancy, birth and infant care.

How do Doulas support me?

Doulas provide childbirth education, emotional support, advocacy,  and on average - shorter labor, reduced frequency of c-section, fewer complications.

Overall - A better birth experience!

How do I pick a Doula?

Doulas are very different and individual.  To find a good match for you, interview any potential Doulas.  Be sure to consider personal style, values, experience level and personality fit.  Your Doula should accommodate your needs and support your choices.  Each relationship is special - Not everyone fits the same.

What is a Postpartum Doula?

These angels provide support for new families after you arrive home with your baby.  Infant care, Mama care, chores, education - it's all possible with a postpartum Doula!

What does a Postpartum Doula do?

Postpartum Doulas provide support for baby and new parents - this can range from light household chores (laundry, cooking, tidying up) baby gear education, infant care (bathing, diapering, burping), assistance with nursing/bottle feeding, sibling entertainment,  - and much, MUCH more.  Night or daytime hours!

How do I arrange for Doula support?

Birth Doulas are hired via contract with prenatal visits, phone support at signing and "on call" beginning within 1 month of your estimated due date.

Postpartum Doulas are contracted any time before or after the birth for a minimum of 40 hours. Please contact us for contract terms.
